Movin' Out ~Billy Joel

This Year

A number of notible things happened this year. On this page, you will find out about my likes, dislikes, and other events of my freshman year.

Things I Love This Year
  • Highlander: the series- Highlander has been a big part of my life since middle school. This year, I finally joined PEACE, the Adiran Paul Fan Club
  • Scotland- the beauty, the honor, the history
  • Celtic Festivals & Music- favorite artists: Altan, Enya, Lorena McKennit, Clannad, and the Tannahill Weavers
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • Barenaked Ladies- a new interest and one I don't know how I've lived without!
  • ICQ- forget AOLIM, ICQ is the way to go
  • Winamp- numbers got up to the 800's in mp3s- most of which were of BNL concerts or music from www.mp3.com artists
  • Subs- as in, Subway Subs. Mmmmm Turkey and Ham on white with lettuce, tomato and onion... I never used to like subs before this year
  • Extensions- I asked for my first extension in my life this year. I had so much work and just couldn't write a proper paper. Luckily, my teacher was a saint and gave it to me. I learned that they're not so bad afterall :-)
  • HTML, DHTLM, and JS- homepages from scratch baby!
  • Dar Williams- I first heard her song 'The Christians and the Pagans' about 5 years ago on NPR's Traditions. It wasn't until this year that I found out who the singer was- and I fell in love with her voice, music, and messages

Things I Hate This Year
  • Incredibly Pointless Songs- This Kiss, Ghetto Superstar, ANYTHING Techno
  • Rap Songs with horrid lyrics- (which of course my roommate played constantly) I won't even mention specifics, but cussing seemed angelic in comparison
  • Mexican Food- never have liked it, never will. As Mike says, "Make a ruuuuuun, for the bathroom"
  • Broken Chairs- my nice, comfy chair broke last year, wheels bent and falling off, the whole thing collapsing on me
  • Good Bus Systems- our buses run on ice! As much as it snows, if the buses run, we still have class
  • Short Weekends- they just seemed TOO short!
  • BOWLING- ONE WHOLE SEMESTER writing programs about bowling and only bowling. It must DIE! PAINFULLY!!!

Things That Happened at Tech This Year
  • West End- new 'gormet' dining hall opened this year. I still like Owens better
  • President resigned
  • Flags outside of Burrus- they went half-staff for a month and nobody knew why
  • Snow Plows- my roommate and I FINALLY saw one of those snow plows for the drill field walk ways in action
  • Snowball Fight- every year on the first big snow, there is a snowball fight between Pritchard and the Corp(who actually have battle plans and strategies). This year, Pritchard lost- again!
  • House on the Drillfield- A huge house-tent was constructed on the drillfield. It took a month to create and one night cars parked by it on the drillfield. We learned later that it was because some people donnated a few million dollars to Tech and they were honoring them. It took a day to take down and killed all the grass underneath.

Things That Happened to ME This Year
  • BNL Concert- I attended my first Barenaked Ladies concert, thanks to Vince and his cousin in NC and his roommate who drove us down and then became my Vector Geo partner(though it took us hours to recognize each other)
  • Highlander: the Raven- HL:TS went off the air, but Amanda's spin-off series began
  • Paganism/Wicca- I became a Pagan Seeker(by the name of Silver Willow) on Samhain, 1998 and have been enjoying the ways of the Lord, Lady and the elements since.
  • Ever After- this amazing movie became my second favorite movie of all time. It doesn't hurt that I've loved Dougray since he was on Highlander
  • Visited UVA- during my spring break, I went and surprised my friend Yu-Sung for her birthday. I also went on a trip with my friend Lanthy's astronomy class to a radio sattilite station in West VA and had a great time(paid for by their Dean!)
  • Holidays- my first year celebrating Halloween, Valentine's Day and Easter on my own
  • LOVE- most importantly, true, complete and eternal love. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and has saved my life in more ways than one.
