Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

aka The Cape Cod Trip

4 AWC members (Kate, Alba, Kristi, and Aditi) headed up to Cape Cod in the fall of 2000 to attend the Grade Hopper Women in Computing Celebration/Conference. We met some great people, had a lot of fun, and learned a lot. But most of all, the inspiration that being together in a room full of women who love computing brought to us. Here are the pictures and events of the trip.

First, the convention itself. Keynote speakers were wonderful for the most part, and we certainly got our fill of corporate money, too.

We got to talk and spend time with women from other chapters of the Association for Women in Computing. Alba and I had met some of them at the Florida AWC meeting last year so it was wonderful to see them again!

There were many different sessions for us to meet each other. We learned a lot through out, and wished we could have gone to them all!

Just one of the workshops/seminars. It was extremely interesting to see what was going on in the real world outside of college :-) They all gave me a lot to think about, especially the security and privacy ones. :-)

This was an especially surprising one! The women here was presenting about the AGC- the girls club at the elementary school my AWC chapter started and which I work with now :-)

This was the most exciting of them all. This seminar had us brainstorming about girls in computing K-12- influences, software, learning, educating, interests, etc. We had small discussions to brainstorm, then reported back, covering the walls almost completely in paper and ideas!
