Camp T-Equity

Summer 1995:
I consider Camp T-Equity to be the defining moment of my interest in computers. Though I’d been exposed to computers since I was young, I’d never considered careers in them. They were just things that made writing papers easier or things that let you move little turtles around on the screen. But Camp T., a two week summer camp for just a handful of girls, changed my viewpoint. Women came to talk with us about working in science and technology. We learned about the Internet and how to send e-mail. We learned how to use graphics software, and how to research using computer resources. We even learned HTML and made our own WebPages. A few days before school started, I dropped creative writing to take computer science.
